I went to see Raindogs today (a new Canadian musical based on the Lanford Wilson play Balm in Gilead) and after the show, a woman came up to me and told me that she owned a dress almost exactly like mine but with different colors. We got into a discussion about the eras of fashion that really flattered the female figure. I do have a special place in my heart for '20s fashion and the hippie style, but I agree that the 1940s was the greatest time for feminine style. And this dress, though made in the '80s, is directly influenced by the '40s. (Ah, how I love the cycles of nostalgia fashion.) The best part of the discussion was that after we had chatted about design and clothing, she explained that her daughter was getting married in a week or two in a vintage wedding dress and a vintage themed wedding, and I had inspired this woman to attend her daughter's wedding in the dress she still kept in the back of her closet!
