So today was International Coming Out Day! I didn't know/remember till the evening, so my theme is simply in the photoshoot! And damn did I have fun physically coming out of my closet ;P

Now, here's my story--after kind of figuring out a bit about my sexuality at age 12, that relationship dissolved for various reasons, and afterwards I went to sleep every night saying "7th grad never happened, I'm completely straight." This went on for over 2 years; a constant struggle to forget my past and re-create myself into someone I thought I had to be. But sometime in the 10th grade, I looked around at my life: my parents who had raised me saying, "We'll love you no matter who you love;" my religion of Unitarian Universalism which prides itself on being a welcoming community; my chosen career of theatre which is 'fabulous' in all senses of the word; and I figured it was about time to embrace who I was. I slowly came out, to a few close friends, to my family, to acquaintances, until I was fabulously out. And now I am daily coated in rainbows (not because I want my sexuality to be the first thing people see, but because I've always loved rainbows, and I'm making up for lost time as the 2+ years I was closeted I figured I'd have to hate rainbows so people wouldn't know.)

So that's my coming out story. But remember, particularly on Coming Out Day, it is for no one to decide to come out but oneself. Coming out is an intense, delicate, and personal decision. Forcing someone to come out is incredibly harmful in ways only a queer person would understand. There are multitudes of reasons to not come out--keeping a job, avoiding harassment, not knowing themselves, not being emotionally ready, not finding it anyone's business but themselves, etc. Please let everyone's coming out story be a positive one!

And now as a bonus, today's workout outfit!
